The 2016-17 FAFSA is Now Available

It's that time of year again… time for high school seniors and returning college students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 2016-17 FAFSA is now available!

While few students are excited about completing paperwork, encourage them to submit the FAFSA as soon as possible so they can take advantage of all state aid, grants and scholarships available to them. Remember, some sources of financial aid have early deadlines and require information from the FAFSA. Although 2015 taxes are needed to finalize a FAFSA submission, students and their parents who have not yet filed their return can submit a FAFSA using estimated tax information. Check out our post at StartWithFAFSA.org for more information about estimating 2015 income for FAFSA purposes.

The most notable change this year is the switch from PINs to FSA IDs. Applicants will no longer use a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to save and sign the FAFSA. Instead, they’ll be instructed to create a Federal Student Aid Identification (FSA ID). Learn more about this change at startwithfafsa.org/category/fsaid.

To help you spread the word about the importance of filling out the FAFSA as early as possible, check out the resources available at StartWithFAFSA.org and order your free FAFSA Toolkit for Counselors today!
