Congratulations to Marian Benner, financial aid assistant at Rose State College, who retired from her position in September. Marian has worked in the financial aid office since 1984. She and her husband live in Midwest City and are planning a move to Laverne, Oklahoma in the near future. She will be missed.

OGSLP Offers Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) Training Workshops

President Signs Extension of the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008

President Bush signed into law a one-year extension of the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (ECASLA) on October 7. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 6889 on September 15 with a vote of 368-4. In swift response, the Senate approved the House legislation two days later.

Oklahoma Cohort Default Rate Remains Stable

Figures recently released by the Department of Education show that Oklahoma’s cohort default rate held steady despite significant rate increases in surrounding states.

ED Releases Reauthorization Implementation Plan

The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) (Public Law 110-315), signed by President Bush on August 14, reauthorizes the programs under the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA). The last HEA reauthorization occurred in 1998.

More information about HEOA implementation can be found on the Department of Education’s (ED) Web site. According to ED, this segment of the site will be updated as the implementation process continues.

On October 17, America's Student Loan Providers (ASLP) will hold a Webinar for financial aid administrators to demonstrate the many attributes of the Family Federal Education Loan Program (FFELP).
