NCHELP's IBR Webinar Posted

The National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP) hosted an informative webinar on Feb. 20 that outlined the income-based repayment (IBR) plan introduced in the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA). This new repayment plan is available to Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and Direct Loan borrowers experiencing a “partial financial hardship” beginning July 1, 2009. The IBR Webinar PowerPoint slides, Q&A document and other IBR resources can be viewed on NCHELP’s Web site.

NCHELP is hosting additional IBR webinars covering a variety of topics on the following dates:

• April 9: 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Central Time)

• An introduction to IBR for Schools - This webinar will assist schools with counseling and includes a general overview of IBR, outlining eligible loans, key terms, determination of partial financial hardship, tracking payments and loan forgiveness.

• April 16: 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Central Time)

• IBR Lender/Servicer Issues - This webinar focuses on a more detailed discussion of payment terms and disclosure, determination of partial financial hardship, tracking payments toward forgiveness and claim filing.

• April 28: 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Central Time)

• IBR-LaRS and Interest and SAP Issues - This webinar highlights the tracking of the 36 months of paid interest and the billing for interest and special allowance.
