UCanGo2 Tools: 'FAFSA 101' Courses
You know we’ve been hard at work developing UCanGo2, our new comprehensive college access and outreach program, which includes many useful tools to make your job easier. We know that talking to parents and students about the FAFSA can be a challenge for our customers, and we're happy to introduce two new UCanGo2 tools: courses specifically designed to simplify your FAFSA education efforts!
Each FAFSA 101 course package includes a PowerPoint presentation with imbedded speaker notes and a handy Presenter’s Guide that reflect the most recent updates to the FAFSA. Click on the presentation titles below to see sample slides from each course.
The ‘FAFSA Fundamentals’ course covers the basics of the financial aid application process. It’s designed to provide an overview and essential understanding of the purpose and process of completing and submitting the FAFSA. In addition to financial aid administrators, FAFSA Fundamentals is suitable for use by high school counselors and teachers, answering many frequently asked questions including:
- What is the FAFSA?
- What are the eligibility requirements?
- What are the benefits of applying online?
- What information do I need before I apply?
- How can I avoid common errors?
- How is financial need determined?
The second course, 'Focus on the FAFSA', was developed specifically for use by financial aid professionals. Focus on the FAFSA offers significantly more detailed information for students and parents, including:
- Types of financial aid;
- Information required to complete the FAFSA;
- Evaluating dependency status;
- Securing and using a PIN;
- FAFSA on the Web screen shots;
- Understanding the Student Aid Report (SAR);
- Verification;
- The award letter; and
- Federal student loans.
Both course packages will be available upon request and will soon be available for download on our new outreach website, www.UCanGo2.org. This site is currently under construction, but check back often to explore the educational information and tools we’ll be adding throughout the upcoming months and learn more about UCanGo2!
