WebWatch: New Loan Repayment Program

Are you familiar with OGSLP’s Loan Discharge and Forgiveness web page? It’s your one-stop-shop for program information and forms, including new options like the Civil Legal Assistance Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program (CLAARP).

The Secretary of Education recently announced the requirements, definitions, eligibility criteria and procedures for CLAARP implementation. Applicants must sign a service agreement to remain employed as a civil legal assistance attorney for a period of not less than three years after the agreement is signed. The Secretary will pay up to $6,000 per year of the borrower’s Perkins, FFELP and Direct loans, subject to annual appropriations.

Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications and service agreements must be received by Aug. 16, 2010. More information can be found on the CLAARP website.
