Better Together in 2009

It’s no secret that times are tough. Many Oklahoma students and families are finding it necessary to make sacrifices and it’s difficult to imagine a time when the need for assistance and sound advice was more important than it is today. This holiday season, OGSLP is celebrating the opportunities we have to make higher education more accessible and help students achieve their goals. Thanks to your partnership and support, we were able to assist Oklahoma students and families in a variety of ways. Because we were ‘better together’ in 2009, OGSLP:

• Distributed thousands of helpful materials to students, families and schools, including our flagship publications, Are You Looking for Money? and Are You Looking for Grants and Scholarships?
• Engaged in dozens of outreach activities, including college fairs and campus and community workshops across the state.
• Helped nearly 2,400 borrowers recover from default.
• Provided products and services that simplify loan processing for borrowers and schools, such as lender comparison tools.
• Developed innovative default prevention programs, including OGSLP’s tools that empower schools to track and connect with at-risk borrowers and provide them an opportunity to recover from delinquency and avoid default.
• Developed progressive early assistance programs that educate borrowers about successful repayment strategies before repayment begins.
• Delivered outreach and access programs that demonstrate the value of postsecondary education, build aspiration and educate families about financial aid availability.
• Continued to expand our financial literacy programs and services that strengthen students’ budgeting and debt management skills.
• Prevented more than $845 million in delinquent federal student loan debt with default prevention counseling.
• Connected with more than 18,000 students and parents at nearly 100 financial aid, college access and financial literacy workshops and events.
