ED Launches TPD Web Site
Do TPD applications have you feeling troubled, puzzled or disoriented?
Recently, Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) discharge regulations have changed dramatically due to changes in the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA), as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA). TPD has been divided into both non-veterans’ TPD and veterans’ TPD (VA TPD). Additionally, the three-year conditional discharge status will be replaced with a final discharge status and a three-year monitoring period beginning with TPD applications received after July 1, 2010.
To help clarify the new regulations, the Department of Education has launched a Total and Permanent Disability Discharge Web site. Visit the site to review key information for borrowers, veterans, physicians and loan holders.
As always, contact OGSLP’s Policy, Compliance and Training department at 405.234.4423, 800.247.0420 (toll-free) or pct@ogslp.org if you have questions about the TPD process. We’re here to help!
