Counselors, it's FAFSA time!
As your seniors begin their final high school semester, they need to prepare to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This will ensure they are ready to enroll in college and have their financial plans in place before the fall semester begins and funds run out. Remember, seniors should complete their FAFSA as soon as possible after Jan. 1.
To help you spread the word, UCanGo2 offers the following tools and resources, all of which are available free of charge.
- Request a College Countdown Stipend of up to $1,500 to help cover the costs of hosting a college planning event for your students and parents. Funds can be used for advertising, materials, snacks and other related expenses.
- Attend one of three National Training for Counselors and Mentor's (NT4CM) workshops to be held in January and February. These one-day workshops will provide information about several programs, including UCanGo2, Oklahoma Money Matters, Oklahoma's Promise, OKcollegestart and resources offered by the US Department of Education. Register to reserve your seat for Ardmore, Oklahoma City or Tulsa.
- Pre-order your 2014 FAFSA Toolkit for Counselors, which has everything you need to educate your seniors about the FAFSA process. Resources include a CD containing event planning tools, several student and parent publications and a ready-to-use PowerPoint presentation. We've also included several sample items, including posters, flyers and postcards available for order.
Don't wait. Submit your requests today so you'll be good-to-go when you return from the holiday break!
