Who's Who at OGSLP?
Laura Westervelt
Department: Policy, Compliance, and Training (PCT)
Title: Training Coordinator
Tenure with OGSLP: 9 mos.
How do your daily duties directly impact OGSLP's customers?
The Training department of the PCT division helps OGSLP employees learn skills they can use to better serve our student, school and lender customers. Our training department not only helps OGSLP staff develop useful computer and project management skills, but also provides valuable training and learning opportunities for our customers and partners. Here at OGSLP, we encourage growth and professional development so our employees are prepared to provide you with innovative solutions and exceptional service.
What advice would you give to someone in our industry who's new to working with student loans?
Know your resources and take advantage of all educational opportunities available to you. There’s so much to learn and there’s a continuing stream of new information. I’m relatively new to OGSLP, but I’ve found our Web site network – including ogslp.org and the OKMM and Cash for College sites – to be a great resource for both industry-related information and training tools.
What do you find most challenging about working with student loans?
The dynamic nature of our business. Working in a changing environment can be challenging, but it’s also exciting and motivating. It’s also important to note that even in an ever-changing industry, some things never change – like our dedication to helping people grow and providing great service to our customers.
What are some of the unique services your department provides our customers?
In addition to supporting OGSLP employees, the training department focuses on providing our school and lender partners with the tools and skills they need to help students succeed. The training page on the OGSLP Web site describes several professional training opportunities, and we always appreciate customer suggestions that help us serve you better. We’re committed to helping our customers and partners work as effectively and confidently as possible in an evolving industry.
What are your hobbies or interests?
I like to write stories, work crossword puzzles and sip coffee in cozy coffee shops. I’ve spent much time in recent years planning weddings, wedding showers, and baby showers for my daughters. After June, you can call me Granny!
