ED Posts NSLDS Announcements
On December 31, the Department of Education (ED) posted two National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) announcements that provide information about a variety of topics, including new security enhancements, student eligibility enhancements and online access requirements for NSLDS users. A summary of each announcement follows.
NSLDS Technical Update GA-2008-15
NSLDS Technical Update GA-2008-15 announces new online access requirements and addresses questions previously raised about the appropriate use of NSLDS and the student data it contains. In addition, it refers to updated requirements for Primary Destination Point Administrators (PDPA) and offers information about the required annual security training for NSLDS users.
Effective January 1, 2009, new NSLDS users must complete security training and confirm the Security Acknowledgment during their initial log-on to the NSLDS system. For current users, the NSLDS system will prompt users when it’s time to complete the security training and the Security Acknowledgment.
NSLDS Newsletter #22
NSLDS Newsletter #22 provides information about the requirements listed in Technical Update GA-2008-15 and outlines the Student Eligibility Enhancements for the 2009-2010 award year, including:
- Improvements that allow the Central Processing System (CPS) to include TEACH Grant and Direct Unsubsidized Loan data and flags in the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR).
- Further enhancements to ensure the increased annual loan amounts established by the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (ECASLA) are used for the aggregate close or equal to combined loan limit indicators.
- Updates to the NSLDS Web site and corresponding ISIR to continually display the FFEL Stafford Unsubsidized (SU) loan with Additional PLUS Denial indicator.
- Enhancements to the NSLDS Transfer Student Monitoring (TSM) alert processes.
These changes are effective January 1, 2009.
