Who's Who at OGSLP?
Name: Ron Reynolds
Department: Early Assistance/Default Prevention (EA/DP)
Title: EA/DP Specialist
Tenure with OGSLP: 7 years
How do your daily duties directly impact OGSLP's customers?
I counsel delinquent student loan borrowers on available options to bring their loans current and help them avoid default. I provide these borrowers information about the different repayment schedules and available deferment and forbearance options. I also offer default prevention information and support to schools and lenders.
What advice would you give to someone in our industry who's new to working with student loans?
Learn all you can about the student loan process. Our industry is very dynamic, so be ready for change.
What do you find most challenging about working with student loans?
I was lucky enough to attend college and graduate without borrowing a student loan. Since I haven’t been through the student loan process myself, I’m unable to offer my own personal repayment experience and hard-earned advice as support to borrowers who are having trouble repaying their student loans. Fortunately, I’m still able to connect with them as individuals and help them explore their options and get back on track.
What are some of the unique services your department provides our customers?
We provide schools a wide range of special services, and my favorite is the Default Prevention School Tool (DPST). Using DPST, schools can conveniently send batch letters to borrowers, work their delinquent accounts, generate reports and, ultimately, enhance their default management efforts. This tool is extremely helpful to a school’s financial aid department.
What are your hobbies or interests?
I enjoy rooting for my Oklahoma State Cowboys. I also love to hunt and fish.
