Bipartisan Congressional Coalition Requests Delay in Implementation of Gainful Employment Rules

In response to the recent ruling on gainful employment rules issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, a bipartisan coalition of members of Congress sent a letter to Arne Duncan, Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education (ED), requesting to delay implementation of the gainful employment rules and suspend further negotiated rulemaking on the subject. The coalition believes that Congress, with assistance from ED and more time, can develop simpler and clearer policies for all Title IV-funded schools as part of the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965, as amended, which is scheduled for 2014.
