UCanGo2 High School Counselor Kit

As you've read in previous editions of the Online News, we’ve been hard at work developing new products and tools for our college access and outreach program, UCanGo2. We're happy to introduce our newest product to make your job easier … the High School Counselor Toolkit.

We know that high school counselors and teachers play a vital role in encouraging and assisting students as they transition from high school to your campus. Our UCanGo2 High School Counselor Kit is a comprehensive resource about planning, preparing and paying for college with particular emphasis on working with first-generation college-going families. We shared the kit at the State Department of Education’s For Counselors Only Conference on March 2, and the positive response was incredible! Participants raved about the helpful content and creative design.

UcanGo2’s toolkit for high school counselors includes a student workbook, instructor’s guide, a wide selection of supplemental resources, and a CD stocked with worksheets, games and tools. The instructional pieces of the kit cover five main content areas:

• Why go to college?
• What do I want to be?
• How do I get there?
• Where do I go?
• How do I pay for it?

Each section includes activities, lesson objectives and corresponding PowerPoint slides for high school counselors and teachers to use when presenting this information to students individually or in a group setting. Sessions can be completed in less than an hour. Encourage your counselor and teacher colleagues to contact OGSLP for a complimentary copy of the new toolkit.
