Higher Education Act Reauthorization Update
Both the Senate and House have passed legislation to temporarily extend the programs under the Higher Education Act (HEA) for one month through April 30, 2008. The current extension expires March 31.
Although both chambers of Congress have passed a reauthorization bill, HEA reauthorization is not expected until next month. The Senate passed the Higher Education Amendments of 2007 (S. 1642) on July 24, 2007, and the House passed the College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2008 (H.R. 4137) on February 7, 2008.
