Interview with East Central University's Director of Financial Aid
by OGSLP's Theresa Battles
Marcia Carter, Director of Financial Aid for East Central University (ECU), is retiring in June. OGSLP's School/Lender Support Services Specialist Theresa Battles took a few moments to interview Marcia, who passed along some advice for financial aid professionals.
Q. When is your last day?
A. June 30, 2008
Q. How long have you been the Director of Financial Aid at ECU?
A. Eight years. I started at ECU 39 years ago as a secretary.
Q. If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently and why?
A. I wouldn’t change a thing!
Q. What will you miss most about ECU?
A. I will miss the students and coworkers, friends and colleagues at colleges and universities all over the state, OGSLP, and the Oklahoma State Regents.
Q. What are your retirement plans?
A. I'm going to spend more time with my children and grandchildren. I’m planning to do volunteer work – processing income tax for AARP.
Q. What are some things that you've always wanted to do and will now be able to do once you retire?
A. Work in the yard and enjoy it! I also plan to take piano lesions – this time I’ll practice – not like when I was a child! And of course, visit friends.
Q. What advice/wisdom would you like to leave with your colleagues in the financial aid community?
A. Always give 100% and do the best you can, but at the end of the day, leave the stress behind and enjoy your family.
