Making Work "Work": Resources for Busy Professionals

Want more respect? Try listening!

If you want your colleagues to respect you more, try this simple tactic: when you ask for their opinions, really listen to what they have to say. It’s a sad fact that many supervisors and project managers don’t actually listen to their team members. When you truly listen, you reap unbelievably positive outcomes.

Think of it this way: you and your colleagues are operating as a collective intelligence. As a team leader, you’re the one responsible for pushing the creativity and brain power of your group to the max. When you’re presented with an idea, take action from what you learn. This will likely be a validating experience for your colleagues, and you’ll become someone employees respect and enjoy working with.
