OGSLP Hosts Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day
OGSLP hosted our seventh annual ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’ program on April 22. This program was developed to allow kids between the ages of 8 and 12 the opportunity to shadow their parents for a day and participate in a number of interactive activities that allow them to visualize the future and begin making steps toward their goals.
Rick Edington, OGSLP’s Interim Executive Director, kicked off this year’s event by welcoming the kids and asking them about their dreams. He explained how their parents/sponsors help people make their dreams come true every day by processing student loans and providing outreach and college access services.
After the introduction, the kids took a tour of OGSLP and had the opportunity to see staff from every department in action. Each department provided a brief overview of their daily duties and the life of a loan. Staff also told them about the ways we make it easier for people of all ages to go to college.
To celebrate Earth Day, participants took a nature walk through Heritage Hills to Perle Mesta Park, followed by time with parents/sponsors learning more about their careers and what they enjoy most about working at OGSLP.
It was a day packed with fun and learning. The committee enjoyed every minute of it. “We truly appreciate the opportunity to spend quality time with such amazing kids,” said committee chair Lisa Hale. “We hope they’ll remember this day forever and keep dreaming and reaching for the stars.”
