OGSLP Offers Critical Borrower and Community Services

A recent survey by the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP) demonstrated that the products and services offered by guaranty agencies provide a variety of important benefits to students, families and schools. OGSLP participated in this survey, and we’d like to share the results with you.

OGSLP supports borrowers and campuses through a number of valuable services, including:

• Outreach and access programs that demonstrate the value of postsecondary education, build aspiration and educate families about financial aid availability.
• Products and services that simplify loan processing for borrowers and schools, such as lender comparison tools.
• Financial literacy programs and services that strengthen students’ budgeting and debt management skills.
• Progressive early assistance programs that educate borrowers about successful repayment strategies before repayment begins.
• Innovative default prevention programs, including OGSLP’s special tools that empower schools to track and connect with at-risk borrowers and provide them an opportunity to recover from delinquency and avoid default.

In our response to NCHELP’s survey, OGSLP let the numbers do the talking. In the last year, we:

• Connected with over 18,000 students and parents at nearly 100 financial aid, college access and financial literacy workshops and events.
• Produced over 100,000 financial literacy/college access publications.
• Trained 730 school guidance counselors and financial aid administrators.
• Offered nearly 50 financial aid administrator trainings.
• Assisted parents and students by handling over 262,000 phone calls and thousands of e-mails.
• Provided valuable information about federal student loans to over 84,000 visitors to OGSLP’s Web site network.
• Prevented more than $845 million in delinquent federal student loan debt with our default prevention counseling.
