NSLDS Posts Reporting Guide and Implements CCRAA Requirements
The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) recently released the February 2008 Enrollment Reporting Guide and Newsletter #19. A summary of information provided in each publication follows.
NSLDS Enrollment Reporting GuideThe February 2008 NSLDS Reporting Guide was posted September 9. A brief description of the reporting guide chapters and appendix is provided below.
- Chapter 1 presents an overview of enrollment reporting.
- Chapter 2 describes the batch reporting process.
- Chapter 3 provides step-by-step instructions for using the NSLDS Web site.
- Appendix A provides the record layouts for enrollment reporting roster files, error files, error codes and explanations.
NSLDS Newsletter #19
NSLDS is implementing changes required by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA) in three phases. Phases I and II were completed June 29, 2008, and Phase III will be complete by December 31, 2008. A summary of the changes as outlined in NSLDS Newsletter #19 is provided below.
Phase I- NSLDS started accepting and displaying the new deferment code “MR” for National Guard, reservist or retired military personnel.
- Direct Loan servicing began Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) grant reporting.
- Web displays for TEACH grant and new Loan Type Code “D8” for Direct unsubsidized loans (TEACH) were published on the NSLDSFAP Web site.
- Initiated use of Overpayments and Organization Contacts for TEACH grants.
- Implement updates to the Transfer Student Monitoring/Financial Aid History (TSM/FAH) processes.
- Enhance data match so Central Processing System (CPS) can include additional TEACH grant and Direct unsubsidized loans (TEACH) and flag the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR).
NSLDS implemented the increased unsubsidized aggregate loan limit on August 17, 2008 and intends to implement other Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (ECASLA) provisions by year-end.
