Oklahoma Cohort Default Rate Remains Stable

Figures recently released by the Department of Education show that Oklahoma’s cohort default rate held steady despite significant rate increases in surrounding states. The new 2006 rate of 5.9 percent indicates that more than 94 percent of student loan borrowers in Oklahoma are repaying their federal loans. The state’s exceptional loan repayment rate reflects OGSLP’s broad range of customized, innovative early assistance and financial education programs that complement and support the default prevention efforts of Oklahoma schools and lenders. On September 18, we issued a news release to highlight the state’s stable cohort default rate.
