Giving Back: the State Charitable Campaign

In September, OGSLP held the first of a series of fundraising events to support the State Charitable Campaign (SCC), an initiative that allows Oklahoma state employees to contribute donations that support several nonprofit social, health and welfare organizations. During this first event, Stick it to Your Manager, our staff cast their votes (in the form of financial donations) for the managers they wanted to see pelted with water balloons. The six managers who collected the most votes (a.k.a. financial donations) were Mary Heid, Christie Lee, Deb Cowan, Angela Caddell, Eric Okeke and Rick Sykora.

Staff helped raise additional funds by purchasing water balloons and tossing them at the winners. Angela Caddell, Director for Communications, Financial Education and Outreach, said after the last balloon had been tossed, “I’ve been less wet climbing out of my pool!”

Last year, we raised more than $2,000 for the SCC, and we hope to break that record this year. So far, we’ve raised over $300 – a number that will only increase as we host more events through the months of October and November. OGSLP staff had a blast and would like to extend a special thanks to the selected managers for being such good sports and helping us support a series of great causes!
