September is College Savings Month

If you’re a parent, you understand that saving for college can be difficult, especially with competing priorities in your monthly budget. In celebration of College Savings Month, Oklahoma Money Matters (OKMM), OGSLP’s financial education program, is partnering with GEAR UP to distribute information and resources that encourage families to save early and often for higher education.

OKMM developed Saving for College: A Parent’s Guide, a new publication that will be featured throughout September at 31 GEAR UP PLAN4College Centers across the state. The Saving for College guide:

• Provides an overview of the Oklahoma College Savings Plan and Coverdell accounts.
• Explains the benefits of making college savings an early priority.
• Offers tips for working college savings into a monthly budget.
• Recommends other helpful materials to assist students and parents in managing the cost of college.
