OCAP - Oklahoma College Assistance Program, Formerly known as the Oklahoma Guaranteed Student Loan Program

Register Today for the OK-CAN and GEAR UP College Access Event

The Oklahoma College Access Network (OK-CAN) and GEAR UP are hosting a special half-day event Friday, Oct. 12 dedicated to college access. We’re meeting at the Moore-Norman Technology Center South Penn Campus, and the event begins with check-in and breakfast at 8:00 AM. There’s no charge to attend, but space is limited, so register today!

Join us to network with peer education and business professionals who promote and support college access throughout Oklahoma. Part of OK-CAN and GEAR UP’s shared mission is to empower service providers to reach even more underserved, underrepresented, and underprepared students. Participants in this special event will hear from Greg Darnieder, senior adviser to the secretary for College Access Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Education and Shannon Presti, director of teen leadership initiatives at the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, on national initiatives to support college access, common challenges faced by the students and families we serve, and innovative ways we can break through those barriers and demonstrate that higher education is within their reach right here in Oklahoma.

For more information about the discussion and presenters, see the event agenda. Costs of the breakfast and the half day event are covered by the Oklahoma College Assistance Program (OCAP) and GEAR UP, both divisions of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

If you’re not already part of OK-CAN, we invite you to become a member. Administered by OCAP, OK-CAN serves as a centralized network of non-profit and not-for-profit initiatives that work to promote college access in our state, facilitating the exchange of best practices, strategic collaboration, and professional development. OK-CAN has more than 150 members representing 100 organizations with a common vision of student success.

We hope you’re planning to attend OCAP’s annual conference on Oct. 11, too, so you can contribute your perspectives and ideas about other key areas of our work, such as specialized services for at-risk populations, financial literacy, financial aid education, and student loan management. See you in October!
