:: Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act (HEROES) ::
The HEROES Act effective dates are Dec. 12, 2003 through September 30, 2017.
The act was created to help applicants and recipients of Title IV financial aid who:
- are serving on active duty during a war or other military operation or national emergency
- are performing qualifying National Guard duty during a war or other military operation or national emergency
- reside or are employed in an area that's declared a disaster area by any federal, state or local official in connection with a national emergency
- suffered economic hardship as a direct result of a war or other military operation or national emergency, as determined by the Secretary
Guarantors, lenders, servicers and schools are required to provide, upon request, information to ED about individuals who have benefited from one or more of the provisions in the HEROES Act.
